Experimentally Validated Coulomb Counting Method for Battery State-of-Charge Estimation under Variable Current Profiles

Battery state of charge as an effective operational indicator is expected to play a crucial role in the advancement electric vehicles, improving battery capacity and energy utilization, avoiding overcharging over-discharging, extending battery’s useful lifespan, autonomy vehicles. In context, this article presents computationally efficient state-of-charge estimator based on Coulomb counting technique with constant variable discharging current profiles for actual pack real time. A dedicated experimental bench developed validation purposes, where pivotal measurements such current, voltage, temperature are initially measured during charging/discharging cycle. The thus obtained via these then compared value estimated through generic model. Detailed analysis conclusive outcomes finally presented exhibit flexible nature proposed method terms precise estimation variety batteries, ranging from lead–acid batteries domestic applications Li-ion inside
